There’s a story in every metre of shweshwe fabric. A tradition of indigo-dyed cotton that’s been woven into South African life for generations. Carried through generations of mothers, celebrations, and everyday moments so we wanted that same sense of heritage and heart woven into the way you carry your practice.

Each Sattva shweshwe mat bag is cut, stitched, and finished by our in-house CMT (Cut, Make, Trim) team at our studio which means no outsourcing, no middlemen. Skilled hands shaping fabric into something that will travel with you from your bedroom floor to the beach. Or, from your local studio to wherever your practice takes you next.

The bold geometric prints and rich indigo tones of shweshwe make every bag one-of-a-kind. No two rolls of fabric are ever quite the same. So your bag carries a pattern that’s genuinely yours. Paired with sturdy stitching and a design built to hold a full-size mat without straining at the seams, it’s as practical as it is beautiful.

We chose shweshwe deliberately because it’s a fabric with roots in local textile tradition. Using it means supporting South African makers and keeping that craft alive.
